Das Vorbild:
Halbkantone oder in der gehobenen Sprache «Kanton mit geteilter Standesstimme» werden die Schweizer Kantone bezeichnet welche aus einer Kantonsteilung hervorgegangen sind und deshalb nur einen Sitz im Ständerat vertreten.

1832 wehrten sich die Landesgemeinden gegen die Dominanz der Stadt Basel und gründeten einen selbständigen Halbkanton Basel-Landschaft. 1833 wurde der neue Kanton durch die Eidgenossenschaft anerkannt.

Der Kanton Basel-Landschaft besteht aus fünf Bezirken mit 86 Gemeinden und eine Gesamtfläche von 517,67 km². Das Wappen zeigt einen roten Hirtenstab welche eine Linkswendung besitzt, also von der Fahnenstange weg. Diese symbolisiert die Abwendung vom Kanton Basel-Stadt und hebt die Unabhängigkeit.

Die Ae 6/6 Basel-Landschaft wurde am 20 Juli 1956 von der SBB in Münchenstein, also in dem Kanton in dem sie zwei Monate später feierlich getauft wurde, übernommen. Sie behielt ihr grünes Kleid bis zu ihrer Ausrangierung am 11. September 2003.
